SEGIS SmartGrid
The US Departme
nt of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories have contracted Apollo Solar to develop a Smart Grid Inverter System as part of the Solar Energy Grid Integrated System (SEGIS) managed by Sandia. The objective of the SEGIS program is to increase the penetration of PV or Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems into the Utility Grid and to maximize the economic value of the solar energy generated. The Apollo Solar SEGIS Technology of advanced, integrated inverter/controllers is the enabling technology that will optimize the benefits of residential and commercial solar energy systems, both to the systems owners and to the utility distribution network as a whole.
The key features that the Apollo Solar Smart Grid Inverter will bring to the market are Energy Storage and Command and Control Communications.
These features enable the following applications:
-
Time Shifting of PV energy harvest to match the demand curve
-
Voltage and Frequency regulation
-
VAR support
-
Demand Response
-
Time of Use pricing
-
Load shedding with intelligent control
